Calcium carbonate, a crucial product in the processing of non-metallic minerals, is vital to national economic development. Hongcheng, through collaborations with numerous international calcium industry giants, has accumulated extensive resources in the calcium carbonate industry and actively contributes back to the sector.

The application of calcium carbonate has developed rapidly, with calcium carbonate powder primarily used in the following areas:

1. Building Materials

Calcium carbonate, ground to 80-400 mesh using milling equipment, serves as a raw material for cement. It enhances the compressive strength, flexural strength, and durability of cement. Simultaneously, calcium carbonate improves the workability of cement and enhances the earthquake resistance of buildings. Heavy calcium carbonate is a material characterized by its bright white color, high purity, and stable quality. Its high purity directly determines its range of applications in the construction industry. For example, it is used in the production of white architectural coatings, adhesives, waterproof coatings, and sealants.

2. Papermaking Industry

The use of calcium carbonate in the paper industry results in paper with improved brightness, a firm structure, good writability, uniform coating, low friction, easy dewatering, and easy drying. Replacing wood pulp and other pigments with calcium carbonate improves the paper's brightness, opacity, porosity, and bulk density. Alkali-based processing is mainly used to produce fine printing and writing paper. Even in the acid-based production of newsprint and other important paper types, calcium carbonate can be used. Currently, the amount of calcium carbonate used in paper coating formulations has significantly increased, rising from 5%–10% to over 30%.

3. Plastics and Polymers

Calcium carbonate is a very important filler material. Ground to approximately 400 mesh using a mine mill, its main uses include plasticizing PVC, rigid polyvinyl chloride, unsaturated polyester materials (thin-sheet and integral molding in the automotive, electrical appliance, and equipment industries), polypropylene (furniture, automobiles, packaging, fibers, etc.), and polyethylene. The addition of heavy calcium carbonate as a filler to plastics not only increases volume and quantity, reduces costs, and ensures uniform distribution, but also improves processing performance, wear resistance, tensile strength, impact strength, flexural strength, elongation at break, and the thermal properties of the product, improving the stability of plastic products.

Heavy calcium carbonate is currently widely used in polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, and various unsaturated resins. PVC products represent the earliest and largest market for calcium carbonate. For example, in soft polyvinyl chloride wire, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl chloride tiles, and calcium plastic materials, it accounts for 20%–50%; in polyethylene and polypropylene packaging materials, it accounts for 10%–30%; and in automotive parts and ceilings, it accounts for 20%–60%.

4. Power Plant Flue Gas Desulfurization

Limestone containing calcium carbonate boasts large reserves, wide distribution, and low prices in China, making it the preferred absorbent for flue gas desulfurization. Ground to 325 mesh D90 using a mine mill, it is directly made into limestone powder to stabilize the absorption tower slurry pH value. Its rapid reaction rate and the production of high-quality gypsum make it widely applicable in the production of cement, gypsum board, and further processing. However, due to increasingly stringent environmental protection regulations, by-products such as sugar white mud and calcium carbide slag are also used in flue gas desulfurization due to their high CaO content. However, these can easily lead to deterioration of slurry quality, so it is recommended to use them in combination with stone powder.

5. Paints and Coatings

Calcium carbonate is an important filler in paint production, with its fineness and particle size distribution determining the paint's transparency. Primarily ground to 600–1000 mesh using a mineral mill, calcium carbonate improves important properties such as corrosion resistance and rheology. Calcium carbonate is also crucial in water-based coating series, enhancing quick-drying properties and playing a significant role in road marking. Furthermore, using calcium carbonate in paint reduces the amount of titanium dioxide needed, offering economic advantages.

6. Medical Field

In the medical field, calcium carbonate is used as a drug carrier and additive. Ground into ultrafine calcium carbonate powder, it enhances drug stability and efficacy while reducing adverse reactions. Calcium carbonate can also be used to treat hyperacidity and prevent kidney stones.

The calcium carbonate powder production line uses HC large-scale swing Raymond mills, HLM vertical mills, and HLMX ultrafine vertical mills, capable of achieving fineness ranging from 80 mesh to 2500 mesh, with a production capacity of 1–200 tons per hour. Nanzhao County, Henan Province, renowned as the "Central Plains Calcium Capital" for its abundant calcium carbonate resources, sees Hongcheng's mills highly favored by numerous Nanzhao calcium carbonate companies for their high quality. Hongcheng has not only witnessed the development of Nanzhao's calcium carbonate industry but will also continue to serve its future growth.

Why is edible calcium carbonate added to toothpaste?

One of the core functions of toothpaste is to clean plaque and stains through abrasives, and edible calcium carbonate, due to its unique physical and chemical properties, has become a widely used choice in the industry. This additive not only needs to meet cleaning needs but also needs to comply with food safety standards. The logic behind it involves multiple considerations of material science, production processes, and consumer safety. Safety: From "edible" to "oral friendly" The "food-grade" attribute of edible calcium carbonate is a prerequisite for its use in toothpaste. According to national standards (such as GB 25584-2010), if toothpaste raw materials claim to be "edible", they must pass strict tests for heavy metals, microorganisms, etc., to ensure safety in case of accidental ingestion. Calcium carbonate itself is chemically stable and can be decomposed into carbon dioxide and calcium ions by gastric acid in the gastrointestinal tract, further reducing the risk. In contrast, industrial-grade calcium carbonate may contain trace amounts of heavy metals or impurities. Although the cleaning effect is similar, there are health risks associated with long-term use. Therefore, the choice of edible calcium carbonate in toothpaste is essentially a double protection against accidental ingestion by consumers. Functionality: Balancing cleaning power and mildness As an abrasive, the hardness and particle size distribution of calcium carbonate directly affect the cleaning effect. Its Mohs hardness is about 3, lower than that of tooth enamel (about 5), which can effectively remove

How to choose the right food-grade calcium carbonate product?

How to choose the right edible calcium carbonate product? In today's era of increasing health awareness, many people are paying attention to calcium supplementation. Whether it is to maintain bone health or to enhance immunity, edible calcium carbonate has become the choice of many people. However, faced with a wide variety of edible calcium carbonate products on the market, how should one choose the right one? Today, let's talk about this topic. Understanding the basics of edible calcium carbonate First, we need to have a basic understanding of edible calcium carbonate. Edible calcium carbonate is a common calcium supplement, which is refined from limestone through chemical reactions. It can not only effectively supplement the calcium elements needed by the human body, but also promote the healthy development of bones. Sounds good, doesn't it? However, choosing the right product is not a simple matter. Product source and production method When choosing edible calcium carbonate, the first thing to consider is the source and production method of the product. Some products may come from unknown sources, or substandard materials may have been used in the production process. Therefore, it is recommended to choose brands that have undergone rigorous testing and have a good reputation. For example, does the product packaging have relevant certification marks, and does it meet national food safety standards? These can help you
