The calcium carbonate industry is developing vigorously

In recent years, China's calcium carbonate industry has developed vigorously. While market demand continues to increase, technological levels have also developed upwards. The level of refinement and functionalization of China's heavy calcium products is not high. Heavy calcium products with a mesh size of 200-325μm account for 50%, 325-1250μm for 35%, and over 1250μm for 15%, of which only about 12% are modified.

In recent years, China's calcium carbonate industry has developed vigorously. While market demand continues to increase, technological levels have also developed simultaneously. However, the refinement and functionalization levels of China's heavy calcium products are not high. Heavy calcium products with a particle size of 200-325 mesh account for 50%, 325-1250 mesh for 35%, and over 1250 mesh for 15%, with only about 12% being modified.

The calcium carbonate industry in Guangxi is developing towards functionalization, serialization, and specialization. Significant efforts have been made in the development of heavy calcium products, with an annual output exceeding 23 million tons. The output of nano-calcium products increases year by year. According to statistics, the national production capacity of nano-calcium carbonate is as high as 1.5 million tons, with actual output reaching 800,000 tons, and a product refinement rate of 22%. A large number of modified calcium products with various functions, special calcium products, calcium carbonates with various crystal forms, and calcium carbonate products with a narrow particle size distribution have emerged. These new products have filled domestic gaps and initially formed a new pattern of product serialization, specialization, and functionalization.

With China's economic development and the advancement of affordable housing projects, the demand for plastic pipes, profiles, sheets, wires and cables, wire conduits, and coatings will increase significantly. Calcium carbonate powder, as a filler for plastics and rubber, helps related industries reduce costs and improve efficiency, which will also increase the demand for light calcium carbonate.

In the future, the product structure of the Guangxi calcium carbonate industry will also undergo significant changes. Functionalization and specialization will become the trend in the development of light calcium carbonate. High-end products such as nano-calcium carbonate, ultrafine calcium carbonate, medical-grade and food-grade calcium carbonate; various surface-modified special calcium carbonates, such as those for natural rubber, synthetic rubber, and coatings, will see faster market growth.

Calcium carbonate products have a wide range of applications, especially nano-calcium carbonate, which has a wide range of applications and high market prices, making it the main direction for the development of the light calcium carbonate industry. It is mainly used in high-end rubber and plastic products, papermaking, silicone sealant, automotive chassis paint, and inks. As a high-end product in the calcium carbonate series, nano-calcium carbonate will gradually replace ordinary calcium carbonate and has good market prospects. The demand for nano-calcium carbonate in China is expected to grow by more than 10% annually in the next few years. The most dynamic market segments for mid-to-high-end nano-active calcium carbonate are silicone sealants and automotive chassis paints.

Calcium carbonate has broad application prospects in green building materials. The country's implementation of the Action Plan for Promoting the Production and Application of Green Building Materials, the construction of a full industrial chain connecting green buildings and green building materials, and the support for the construction of industrial parks featuring green building materials, will increase the proportion of green building materials used in construction projects. The Action Plan for Promoting the Production and Application of Green Building Materials issued in 2015 proposes to focus on the needs of green buildings and the development direction of the building materials industry, mainly in downstream application areas closely related to the calcium carbonate industry, such as plastic pipes, coatings, and wood-plastic products. Driven by both policy and market forces, China's green building materials industry will accelerate its development and become a new growth point for downstream applications of calcium carbonate. As the world's largest producer and consumer of building materials, China has broad prospects for the development of green building materials, driven by technological advancements, policy and regulation promotion, and consumer upgrades, to reduce the consumption of natural resources and the impact on the ecological environment.

China has a strong demand for calcium carbonate, especially for heavy calcium carbonate, which has seen a significant and sustained increase. In economically developed coastal areas such as Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang, the rubber, plastics, ink, and processed product manufacturing industries are highly developed, leading to a high demand for light calcium carbonate with high quality requirements, mainly including high value-added calcium carbonates such as ultrafine calcium carbonate, superfine calcium carbonate, and papermaking-grade calcium carbonate. In places like Hangzhou and Ningbo in Zhejiang, Suzhou and Zhenjiang in Jiangsu, and Shenzhen and Dongguan in Guangdong, where plastic processing and toy manufacturing are developed, the demand for light calcium carbonate is also high, mainly ordinary calcium carbonate and active calcium carbonate, with some demand for superfine calcium carbonate for rubber and ink. Different industries have different requirements for calcium carbonate products, so calcium carbonate products will inevitably develop towards serialization, refinement, and high-end. It is estimated that by the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the domestic demand for calcium carbonate powder will reach 38.5 million tons; by the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, it is estimated that the domestic demand for calcium carbonate powder will reach 49.3 million tons, further promoting the development of the calcium carbonate industry.

Why is edible calcium carbonate added to toothpaste?

One of the core functions of toothpaste is to clean plaque and stains through abrasives, and edible calcium carbonate, due to its unique physical and chemical properties, has become a widely used choice in the industry. This additive not only needs to meet cleaning needs but also needs to comply with food safety standards. The logic behind it involves multiple considerations of material science, production processes, and consumer safety. Safety: From "edible" to "oral friendly" The "food-grade" attribute of edible calcium carbonate is a prerequisite for its use in toothpaste. According to national standards (such as GB 25584-2010), if toothpaste raw materials claim to be "edible", they must pass strict tests for heavy metals, microorganisms, etc., to ensure safety in case of accidental ingestion. Calcium carbonate itself is chemically stable and can be decomposed into carbon dioxide and calcium ions by gastric acid in the gastrointestinal tract, further reducing the risk. In contrast, industrial-grade calcium carbonate may contain trace amounts of heavy metals or impurities. Although the cleaning effect is similar, there are health risks associated with long-term use. Therefore, the choice of edible calcium carbonate in toothpaste is essentially a double protection against accidental ingestion by consumers. Functionality: Balancing cleaning power and mildness As an abrasive, the hardness and particle size distribution of calcium carbonate directly affect the cleaning effect. Its Mohs hardness is about 3, lower than that of tooth enamel (about 5), which can effectively remove
